Jack Finlay was just 22 years old when he was diagnosed with ALS in 2010. Working toward his degree at the University of Montana, he vowed to not let the disease get in the way of achieving his dreams and living his best life.
The researchers focus on an earlier phase of ALS development, which is commonly understood to be a “silent” phase – before symptoms of the disease begin to manifest. Those minor motor impairments in the earlier phase are currently insufficient for a confirmed diagnosis.
“Now that I don’t have the strength to hold a paintbrush, I have to find new ways to be creative, so I decided to paint with my wheelchair with my wheels and feet, it’s quite fun,” said Eric speaking through computer software.

She’s competing in the Miss Texas USA pageant, and she’s using her platform to shine a light on a devastating disease that has changed her family’s life.
