The ALS Association spent over $2 million helping fund the development and clinical trial of AMX0035. When the results of that trial showed it was safe and effective in treating ALS, the ALS Association led an advocacy campaign to push the FDA to approve the drug. After two years of advocacy, the FDA finally approved AMX0035.

Steve Greer is an active ALS chapter board member and person living with ALS. He joined the board of directors of The ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter in March 2021 to help those battling ALS fight today for their tomorrow. In addition, Steve serves on The ALS Association Congressional Advocacy Committee, and as a pharmaceutical patient board advisor. In 2021, Steve had a vision of bringing a Ride to Defeat ALS® event to the area. Through the dedication of his Ride to Defeat ALS ® committee and many other local supporters, he launched the inaugural Blue Ridge Ride to Defeat ALS ® in May 2022 in Charlottesville, VA. As an ALS gladiator, he recently celebrated his fifth anniversary in the fight against ALS and continues to live in the moment.
In October 2021, Deb Grover's best friend, Lisa, was diagnosed with ALS. As an avid cyclist, Lisa had just completed a 100-mile ride from Massachusetts to Maine the month prior. In response to her diagnosis, Deb rallied their gym, The Movement Workshop, to create a team for the 2022 Massachusetts Ride to Defeat ALS®.
