My Father, SKCM Milton N Stivender, served in the USCG from 1946-1969. He served on the USS Spencer in the 1940's. He also served at USCG headquarters in D.C., New Orleans, LA. and helped start the USCG Training Station in Yorktown, VA. in the 1960's, where he retired in 1969. He started to show signs of ALS in 1975 but was not diagnosed until 1982. One of the questions his neurologist asked was if he had ever been to Guam, the answer was yes. He died in October of 1984.
