The Luker Family's Journey to Support ALS Awareness

Ben, Jack, and Tom Luker were first introduced to the ALS mission during the Ice Bucket Challenge in 2014. Little did they know that this fun family activity would set them on a path to support the cause and become advocates for ALS awareness in the years to come. At that time, they were not fully aware of the gravity of the disease, but they embraced the opportunity to contribute to the viral challenge that spread across the nation, and helped raise much needed awareness and funds for ALS research.

A Difficult Diagnosis

A few years later, their father, Geoffrey Luker, received a diagnosis of ALS after experiencing some concerning symptoms. The Luker brothers and their mother, Bev Luker, were initially in disbelief when they learned that there was no cure for ALS. Sadly, Geoffrey passed away in 2019, less than a year after his diagnosis. Ben, fondly remembers their father as their biggest icon and his memory continues to inspire all they do.

Commitment to the Cause
After their father's diagnosis, the Luker family immediately committed to supporting the ALS cause as a united front. Together, Ben, Jack, and Tom, along with their mother, are determined to make a difference. Their professional careers and involvement in soccer serve as platforms for their advocacy. Jack is the Founder of LRES Property Management and a men's soccer coach at Oviedo High School. Tom is the Founder of Luker & Co Real Estate and Ben Luker is the Founder of West Country Services and a soccer coach. The three brothers are using their leadership in the community to help make a difference and are looking forward to participating the upcoming CEO Soak event in Winter Garden, Florida.

Raising Funds and Awareness
The Luker family organized a mini-ice bucket challenge at the recent Geoffrey Luker Golf Tournament in May, which raised over $6000 for their CEO Soak team. Their hope is that by sharing their story, they can spread awareness, encourage others to get involved or volunteer. Jack shared, “You don’t want anyone to have to experience the impact of ALS personally, but what we do want is for people to know more about this rare disease and the devastation it causes. Hearing stories helps build awareness.” Tom and his brothers shared the sentiment that they are committed to doing whatever it takes to “make ALS a disease that can be beaten.” The Luker family's journey from participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge to becoming passionate advocates for ALS awareness demonstrates the power of personal experiences in driving change. Through their commitment, participation in events and continuous support, they are determined to make a difference in the fight against ALS.
